Sonadow: Take My Heart

Shadow stumbled backwards as the bullet hit his chest. It sank deep into his flesh, piercing his heart. He groaned as the pain set in, burning his body. "no…" he whispered looking up at the one who had fired the shot. A G.U.N commander smiled triumphantly, watching as Shadow fell to the ground. G.U.N had lost control, they were the real threat to every one now… or so Sonic said. He was right. Shadow's head bounced painfully on the ground. He looked at the ground next to his head. He sighed regret, why hadn't he listened to Sonic? Stubbornness… that's why.
He placed his hand over the wound. He winced in pain. Shadow looked at the night sky, oh so peaceful.   He laughed as a tear slid down his pale cheek. It quickly turned into hysterical sobbing.
So this was it?
"heh… good bye world…" he smiled. He was dying fast.

Sonic ran next to the unconscious hedgehog down the hallway of the hospital. The smell of disinfectant and blood making him sick to his stomach.
"Stay with me Shadow!" he shouted.
they burst through the door. They positioned the table in a way to operate.
Sonic watched from the corner of the room. Even though Shadow was an enemy… he was still a friend to Sonic. An arrogant, self-centred, jerk- face friend. As much as Sonic hated to admit it… Shadow was almost his best friend.
He listened to the doctors and nurses gathered around his dying body, talking about what they must do… if any thing goes wrong.
Sonic sighed. He looked up to one of the nurses who wiped the blood off Shadow's chest and face. He looked at the doctor who talked to another about his condition and whether or not he will survive. He slid down against the wall, sitting down and hugging his knees to his chest. He looked up at the table where his rival lay. He smiled.
'Shadow is indestructible! He'll never let a few bullets to the heart bring him down…'
his smile turned into quiet sobbing.
the nurse that sat in the far corner walked up to him, kneeling down.
"hey, don't worry your friend will be fine." She whispered placing a hand over Sonic's.
He quickly jerked his hand away, he knows that he wont be okay! A quarter of his heart is missing! Blown to bits by the impact of the bullet!
"don't lie to me…" he muttered under his breath.

The nurse had shock written across her face.
She nodded and smiled sadly. He looked up at her and smiled back a little.
"what's your name?" Sonic asked quietly to the nurse.
She look down at the white and red dress she wore then lifted her gaze back to Sonic. Why did he want to know?
"why do you wish to know?"
Sonic looked at her and shrugged.
"it's nurse Talisha."
Sonic nodded. "nice name."
"thank you. You're Sonic the hedgehog? Right?"
Sonic nodded, "correct."
She nodded and walked back to the table to help out.
Sonic sighed as he watched them all. Why wasn't any one telling him if Shadow was going to be okay or not! It was driving him mad.
One machine beeped madly as shadow started to slip. Sonic shot up, "NO!" he ran to Shadow's body, squeezing his hand as hard as he dared to. One doctor came running into the room and shoved Sonic aside. He fell onto his arm, yelping as he felt some thing click.
"Out of the way!" the man shouted, glaring down at the hedgehog who was clutching his arm in pain.  Sonic gapped. 'why you…' he stopped his thought. Nurse Talisha walked up to the blue hedgehog quickly. She lightly pressed her fingers into his shoulder.
"OOWW!" Sonic yelled.
"Sorry."
She pushed her fingers in deeper clicking some thing in place.
Sonic looked at her, "thank you." He smiled as he stood up.

He looked at the man who had pushed him from Shadow's body. "who IS that!?" he asked Talisha.
She shook her head not knowing. "I'm new here."
"oh."
He looked at his friends body again. Seeming lifeless, besides the heart monitor that was barely displaying anything.
He started to cry again. Louder and louder he cried out.
he stopped his crying for a minute listening to what they were saying.

"there's no way we'll be able to repair his heart! It's impossible!" the man who pushed Sonic stated.
"we can always do a transplant." Another requested.
"we don't have any available donors you idiots!"
Sonic's ears flattened against his skull. 'no…' he tightened his hands into fists. "NO!" he screamed , tears cascading down his face.
they all looked at the hysterical hedgehog. "NO! I WONT LET HIM DIE!" he shouted, squeezing his eyes shut resisting the urge to start crying again.
"Sorry but… we have no donors. It's the only way he'll survive." The man said sadly.
Sonic looked down but straight up again, "I can't live with out him… but he can live with out me."
Talisha gasped but smiled as if she knew what was going on inside his head.

the man stepped towards Sonic, "what are you saying?"
Sonic looked up, his eyes filled with tears. "let him have my heart…" he smiled wide.
The all stared at him.
"are you sure? you'll be giving your life away?" the man asked.
Sonic nodded.
"well… this way…"
"wait!" Sonic said loudly.
"what is it?" Talisha asked.
"can I spend some time with Shadow please?"
"of course." They all said to him.

Sonic sat next to Shadow. His chest covered with a white sheet since his chest was still open. He lightly placed a hand on his friends cheek. "I guess this is goodbye." He sniffed quietly. "I know you wont miss me. You think I'm nothing but a fake. Shadow… I hope you wont forget me though." He smiled sadly as tears made their way down his face. "I hope you enjoy my heart… " he stood up and walked out to where Talisha waited for him.

"uggh… w-where am i?" Shadow asked slowly sitting up rubbing his head in confusion and pain.
"you're in the ICU." Talisha replied walking up to him.
"who… who are you?" He asked staring at her face.
"I'm Nurse Talisha."
Shadow nodded, "I'm Shadow."
"I know."
"h-how do you-" shadow was cut off by Talisha.
"you have a very loyal friend. He told me your name and…" She didn't know if she should tell him.
Shadow looked at her ,perplexed. "I don't have any friends… let alone 'loyal' friends…" he sighed sadly, drooping his shoulders.
"what about Sonic? He was here the whole time up until…"
"SONIC! That faker! HA! He's nothing to me! I'd kill him for a cent!" he laughed.
Talisha looked at him, sadness washed over her face.
"what? It's only the truth." Shadow snickered.
Talisha looked at him, tears found their way down her cheeks remembering what happened.
"you're going to have a hard time trying to kill him…" she said looking at his chest.

"Why?" he crossed his arms. "it's easy to kill him."
"you'll have a lot a trouble trying to kill some body that's all ready dead…"

Talisha's words echoed in Shadow's ears. It shot a whole right through him. 'Sonic's dead?'
She looked at his shocked face, mouth slightly open and eyes wide in disbelief.
"w-what happened to him?" he chocked.
She pointed to his chest.
"you would've been the one dead if he wasn't here."
Shadow shook his head not wanting to believe any of the information.
"we couldn't repair your heart. We had no donors to perform a transplant, until he stepped up and offered to give his to you."

Shadow was shaking his head. "WHY! Why did he do it!?"
"he said he could never live with out you, but you could live with out him."
Shadow held his head so low, his nose touched his knee.
"w-where… is he…now?" he asked lifting his head up.
"by now… in heaven…. But he's been buried in the cemetery near here. They held his funeral yesterday."

Shadow shot out of the bed, grabbing his shoes and gloves, quickly slipping them on.
he ran out the door, sprinting down the hall way of the hospital.

Night was approaching fast as Shadow ran for the cemetery.
The gate came in sight. He walked through them, the only sounds he heard were the crunching leaves beneath his shoes and the howling wind.
'oh sonic…'
He walked up a slight hill. A wooden cross was stuck in the ground, red and white roses were planted on either side of it, sunflowers, tulips, daisies and other flowers had been placed in front of the cross that had the name 'Sonic' engraved into it. Beneath his name stood his date of birth and death… letters written from every one were also engraved into the wood. Everyone except Shadow's.
"Sonic… I'm sorry for always calling a fake. I'm so sorry for every thing I've ever done to you! I hated you! I dissed and ditched you! And yet you STILL gave your life for me?! Why? "
Shadow knelt down in front of the cross. Some thing caught his eye. There engraved in the grain of the wood at the top, his last words… 'I wanted to give my life to him because he's my friend… he's my best friend…'
Shadow smiled as tears trickled down his face. "oh Sonic."
He picked a rose from the one bush placing it on the grave. He took out his knife and began craving a message into the one arm of the cross.
'thank you Sonic. I will never forget you and your kind heart. R.I.P…'
He stood up and grabbed some more flowers from another bush near by placing it with the others.
"thank you Sonic. You have and always will be my best friend."
